By using techonological processes, humans design and make things to solve problems and meet the human needs. An important stage of this processes is the material selection. According to material properties we can choose the best choice for each application.

1st SESSION. First of all, let's see the most common materials and what are they used for. (WRITE DOWN THE ACTIVITIES ON YOUR NOTEBOOK)

2nd SESSION. Once we know what are some objects made of, we have to know about their properties..

ACTIVITY 4: Write a list of material properties. Translate them to Catalan and match the opposites and the synonyms.

ACTIVITY 5: Think about the materials for making the following objects. What properties do you think they have? a) pencil b) window c) paper d) fork e) vase

ACTIVITY 6: Why is aluminum suitable for heating radiators? What properties must it have?


3rd SESSION. An interesting property...




ACTIVITY 7: After watching de video, can you say the name of the property of this material? Describe it in a few words.

ACTIVITY 9. WORK IN GROUPS: TAKE A LOOK AT FIVE OBJECTS
Today the teacher has brought five difFerent objects that you have on your table. Work in group and discuss the two most important properties the have.

ACTIVITY 10: FINAL PROJECT
Did you take a picture at your home, in the park or in any place? (Remember that you can't use the Internet!)
Now you have to put SIX labels on your image with VIDEO notes.
Instructions:

  1. Take a picture of a room of your house or somewhere in your town. We need a good variety of objects and materials in you image.
  2. Put a label with a video note at least on SIX of the objects of your picture.
  3. Following the examples we did in class, you have to give some information about these objects using your voice.
    1. Object’s name
    2. Utilility of the object
    3. Material’s name
    4. Material’s properties
    5. Main advantatges or disadvantatges of having these properties.

EXAMPLE: This is a table that we use to eat on . We also can use it for studying and other things. It's made of wood and as far as I know it's not natural wood. In general, wood is not very hard and waterproof neither but it's elegant and quite strong. I think that the main disadvantage is that is not hard enough.
